Steve Maclean Public School
opened its doors in Riverside South in September 2006. The school
has classes for JK-5 with early French immersion with grades 6, 7
and 8 being added in 2007, 2008 and 2009 respectively. Children of
families living south of Earl Armstrong Road will attend Manotick
Public School in Manotick.
The school building is a two story structure with most of the
classrooms on the second floor. The first floor has offices, meeting
rooms, a gym with a stage, a library and computer lab, a music room,
an art room and a science room.

Catholic English
After several years of the RSCA working with the OCCSB,
St. Jerome Elementary School
opened in September 2004 - the first school in Riverside South..
St. Jerome is a large school can hold up to 520 students. The school
faces Spratt Road and is fenced on 3 sides being partially open to
the Park. The school has both asphalt and grass play areas and have
an area for bicycle parking.
The school was not built with portables, however the plans submitted
to the city for approval do allocate space for future portables
should the need arise in 5-10 years time.
The school has a computer lab, a library, a gymnasium with a curtain
divider available if teachers would like to divide the room into
two; with a stage structure that can be lowered or raised.
The school houses a one-room child care facility, for 20 JK and/or
SK morning and afternoon child care. It is not for preschool age
children. It contains a separate bathroom facility and has access to
a fenced area with both grass and asphalt play areas. This care
centre is run by the Board. An additional room is available for
before and after school care for other grades with a separate
bathroom. This room also accommodates approximately 30 children.
The school offers the following French programs:
JK and SK French immersion - 1 week English, 1 week French
Grades 1-3: Extended French Immersion at 25% a day; two or so
classes/subjects (Social Sciences and French language arts)
Grades 4 and up: choice of continuing Extended French Immersion
25/75 or Immersion at 50/50.
The Catholic School Board's policy on transportation is that any JK
or SK student living more than 0.8km driving distance from the
school will receive busing. There are a number of streets in
Riverside South that fit this criterion. Any child in grades 1
through 6 who lives more than 1.6km from the school will also
receive busing. There are buses that run throughout Riverside South
to pick up children who meet these criteria.

While there are no current plans to build a high school in Riverside
South, a future Catholic high school is being considered at the
corner of Earl Armstrong Road and Spratt Road.
